Every summer, high school cross country runners come up here for a little bit of high altitude training. This morning, I drove into the parking lot of one of my favorite hikes and there were about a 100+ 16ish year olds ready to hit the trail. I found out they were from Palos Verdes and El Segundo area (near Los Angeles). I was hesitant to go on my hike because of the amount of people I saw before me, but I got up early to do this and at 7:15, I was determined to go on my hike.
What I found was...these kids were all sooooo KIND! I got a bunch of, "Good Morning's, Excuse Me, Thank You, Have a great day". It was awesome!! I didn't mind pulling over to let them pass at all. I told one of their coaches that they had really well mannered kids. And the way they were cheering each other on the whole time was incredible!
Stats of the run they did (thanks to My Tracks on my Droid)
6.6 miles round trip
Starting Elevation - 9,166 ft
Maximum Elevation - 10,496 ft
Elevation Gain - 1,330
I finished the hike in 2 hours and 45 minutes. They were scattered all around me.
These kids just came up from sea level on Friday.

Awwwww... very cool, Stace! We used to go to Big Bear every year. Some of the funnest times ever were at Cross Country Camp! I'm glad they were so kind and you got to enjoy your hike!
ReplyDeleteThanks for the memories!
